In-House Evaluation & Drafting
Evaluation Protocol
Evaluations are conducted to properly evaluate the talent of players in all leagues except Rookies. These evaluations are mandatory for every player, including coaches' sons, and every attempt should be made to have a player evaluated to ensure that teams are evenly distributed.
Players are evaluated on a 7-point scale, 1-7, in six different categories; batting, infield defense, infield throwing, outfield defense, outfield throwing and pitching. The 7-point scale shall follow the general guidelines:
1-2: Developing Player
3-5: Average Player
6-7: Above Average Player
Players will be evaluated by independent evaluators who do not have a player in the league and are not coaching in that respective league. Evaluators are picked by the league commissioner(s) with approval from the SYB board.
League coaches will also evaluate players and will keep their respective scores.
Following the evaluations, the independent evaluators’ respective scores will be collected and compiled by the league commissioners. An average score for each respective player will be established. These averages will be used to assist in that leagues draft order.
Drafting Protocol
The following protocol will govern "drafting" of players in all leagues except Rookies. The object of the draft in each league is to get as close to equitable player distribution as possible.
Every player will have an average score based on their performance at the league evaluations. If a player is not evaluated, they will be drawn randomly at the end of the draft.
Prior to draft day, league commissioners will distribute the compiled list to the head coaches.
Drafting Order
In determining the 1st round draft order, the following method will followed:
- The cumulative avg. score for both coaches’ sons will be determined. The coaching combination with the lowest avg. score will draft first, followed in succession by the next lowest score, until all coaches have drafted. Coach’s sons’ will also be drafted based on their cumulative average. Coaches will be told prior to drafting what round their son will be taken in.
- Drafting order will be tabulated each round and will continue based on the cumulative average for each team from lowest to highest.
- Those players that did not attend their respective league evaluation and was thus not given an evaluation score will be randomly drafted after all of the evaluated players have been selected.
Brothers playing in the same league will be drafted together and their draft order will be disclosed before the draft begins. If a brother has the same cumulative average as a coach’s son, they will go in the next round.
